Flying Creatures V.1

Today is August 17, 2009. We started our Flying Creatures book.

Meniscus comes from the greek and means, crescent. Look at how the water is actually higher than the rim of the sippy cup. Surface tension of the water molecules helps one brother hold onto his neighbor until they all stand above the rim.

We used straws to demonstrate LIFT by creating low pressure at the top of a straw. The level of water in the straw rose upward in the straw when we blew across the top. We knew we had water at the top when we were spraying water across the counter! great fun. Look at the video below.
